Meet Isabel

When I first stepped foot on Alverno, I felt welcomed and heard. I didn't feel like I would be lost in a sea of students because faculty members cared about me and my story. I was also deeply intrigued by our eight abilities and felt compelled to take on the challenge.
I'm first-generation college student and a child of immigrant parents and want to make them proud. By receiving scholarships, I am able to stay in school and be one step closer in making my family proud.
I'm a double major in secondary education and biology. I want to teach children and help them grow as learners and individuals. I also have a deep love for biology and would like to further my understanding of it.
As of right now, I want to become a middle school science teacher since I
really enjoyed my last placement at Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate School.
Though, I am open-minded and would enjoy pursuing a career in STEM
regarding environmental science, oncology, or genetics.
Alverno has helped me grow in more ways than I could have ever imagined.
I'm more confident in myself and have a deeper understanding of my worth.
As a young minority women who has constantly heard 'you can't do that' or
'you don't belong here', I have grown to learn my voice is what matters the
most. I am excited to be on this journey and look forward to continuing my
last two years at Alverno College.
